![]() ![]() And I do continue to use the WaterWetter in my radiator.Īs to synchro wear: the synchros in my transmission wear good as new, as were the gears, but the bearings went out. ![]() Of course I cannot speak for the engine oil it is probably ok. Red Line 50205 Manual Transmission Lubricant (MTL) Gear Oil - 1 Gallon, (Pack of 4) Brand, Red Line Item Weight, 10 pounds Package Dimensions, 14.4 x 12.7. I will never use any Redline oil in any tranmission ever again. At any rate, I used Redline in my transmission and my transmission failed. For my car, it was very difficult to figure out exactly which Redline product was applicable. For Redline I always thought MTL was too thin (75W80) and. The 6 speed Miata guys rave about it though. Other than the higher price point of the Ford/Motorcraft oil I didnt really notice any difference between the two. ![]() I therefore conclude it was due to the RedLine oil. Ive used Redline MT90 and Ford/Motorcraft XT-M5-QS in my RX7, which has essentially the same transmission. In fact, I could find no other instance of this type of failure. This is an extremely rare failure for this Toyota transmission. One of the countershaft bearings went out. Red Line MTL transmission gear oil is a 75W80 GL-4 gear oil (SAE 5W30/10W30 engine oil viscosity) designed for use in manual transmissions and transaxles. Redline MTL takes that protection a step further and offers better fluid life, and better synchronizer coefficient of friction. Used to lubricate a wide base of cars including BMW, MINI Cooper, and others using a 75W80 gear lubricant such as GL-1 GL-3 and GL-4 applications. I used 75w90ns gear oil in my 01 Prizm since it was new and the transmission just failed (complete lock up) at 87k miles. This Redline MTL fluid is equal to the viscosity of a 75W80 fluid. In my experience it offered no real benefit (in drivability or otherwise) over the OEM oil., and may even have caused damage. I strongly advise against usiung RedLine oil for use in transmissions, period. ![]()
